Pharmacotherapy
General psychiatry includes the clinical interview/ psychiatric examination, which in turn includes the history and examination of the present mental condition and subsequent the recognition of the mental disorders. This recognition is essential, in order to put with accuracy a diagnosis and to implement an effective treatment. Treatment may be pharmacotherapy or psychotherapy.
Medicines are the central stem of many mental disorders such as psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety disorders.
The great process in research and development of new medication which has been recently made, has filled psychiatrists quiver treatment with many safe and well tolerated medications.
Pharmacotherapy can be defined as an attempt to modify or correct pathological behaviors, thoughts or moods with chemical means.
The adjustment of pharmacotherapy in Psychiatry can of course not be oversimplified, i.e. a diagnosis a pill.
Many variables are involved in the application of pharmacotherapy, such as the selection of the medication, prescribing, administration, the psychodynamic meaning as to the patient, and the effects of the family and the environment.
